If you’re heading to Kauai and want to know where to eat, I’ve got you covered. This is gluten free Kauai and I’m sharing some of the tastiest places that I found to eat.
On a recent and much needed trip to Kauai, I decided to document some of my favorite wellness food finds. While I wouldn’t consider myself gluten-free (because I’m in to labels), a non-inflammatory lifestyle is my path of choice and that means gluten is not on the menu.
If you’re looking for dairy free eats in Kauai, you’ll be happy with this post as well. Fortunately, some of the best food in Kauai is naturally gluten and dairy free.
Yay!
I also ate at some other places, but everyone’s food wasn’t worth writing about. In addition, sometimes I just wanted to sit down and enjoy my meal. But whatever you find on this list (at least at the time of publication), definitely checked those flavor boxes for me.

Chalupa Food Truck
One of the first places that I visited was a “food truck lot” near the ATV parking lot near old Koloa town. There were several food trucks to choose from. I even spotted a food truck serving coffee. But, I wasn’t there for the coffee. I was there for the best fish tacos in Kauai.
The Chalupa Food Truck serves all types of tacos. There are benches to sit and enjoy and you can listen to the roosters as they crow on by.
Anake’s Juice Bar
To find this next spot you have to go inside of the KuiKui’ula grocery store and head all the way to the back of the store. Once there, you’ll find this tasty gem.
I opted for “Da Dragon”. Let me tell you something, there may be no gluten or dairy in this bowl, but there surely is naturally occurring sugar.
Da Dragon contains banana, mango, pitaya, coconut water topped with seasonal fruit, goji berries, coconut flakes, local raw honey, and granola and a lilikoi drizzle.
You can sub out the traditional granola for gluten free UDI’s granola too. There are lots of options so choose which bowl works for you.
Oh yeah, and you’ll be hard pressed to get the folks at Anake’s to answer their telephone. So just take note of their hours of operation and show up.
Tip: Want to make something like this at home? Just use this smoothie recipe as a base and start out with half using half the quantity of liquid.
Once done, top it with your favorite fruit and my homemade grain free granola.
Bubba Burgers in Poipu
This spot had a long line that was crazy. Not sure if that’s typically the case, but apparently there was a big order ahead of us so that part was less than fun.
What makes this spot a good option is that you can get your burger topped in lettuce, instead of bread.
Another reason that Bubba is one of my wellness food finds is because the burgers are made from grass-fed beef. Now, that’s not something you see everyday. Just think twice before you ask for lettuce or tomatoes on your burger though. They have “a thing” about that.
Tip: Make your own grass-fed burgers at home using grass-fed grass finished beef.
Kauai Juice Company
The food at Kauai Juice Company is definitely for you if words like gut flora and microbiome sound like music to your ears. One thing I like is the fact that all of the food have clear ingredients so there is no ambiguity. I enjoyed gut shot elixirs, cold pressed juice and zesty dill pickles.
The best part is that all of the ingredients are locally sourced.
Tip: If you can’t make it to the Kauai Juice Company for their cucumbers/pickles just try this recipe for simple cucumber salad instead. Don’t forget to wash it down with this fresh detoxifying cilantro juice too.
Da Crack
On the way to Aneka’s you should definitely stop at Da Crack. It’s more of a taco stand than anything else since you can’t actually sit inside and dine. To keep things gluten free, you’re going to want to get the corn tacos.
I can confirm that the chicken, pork and shrimp tacos are not a waste of money in the least. There are five steps to ordering, so make sure you figure things out before you get to the window.
The lunch time crowd can be a bit of a rush.
The Fresh Shave
Apparently, the day we stumbled upon this spot was their big opening. They started selling shaved ice from a trailer, but apparently it was time to move on up and out.
If you’re visiting Kauai you’ll see shaved ice spots all over the place. But, if you’re looking for shaved ice with no artificial colors or flavors, and mostly organic ingredients, that will be a little more difficult to find. Well, unless of course you’re at the Fresh Shave.
Honestly, I can’t remember what I ordered, but it surely tasted good. This is not for folks that are looking for no sugar options, but if you’re looking for a sweet dairy free and gluten free treat, this spot is for you.
You can find the Fresh Shave in an airy spot surrounded by gorgeous trees in Koloa. It’s a nice place for families with young kids to run around and play after.
While I was there, I had an opportunity to talk with one of the owners and she was super sweet too.
Tip: While this recipe is no “Fresh Shave” it surely is delicious. Try this recipe for watermelon lime granita without the expensive airfare to Kauai.
So if you’re looking for gluten free Kauai, I hope that this list helps. Fortunately for you, some of the best food in Kauai just happens to be gluten free.
